Eliza definitely radiates main character energy—a beautiful young professional thriving in a major city, jet-setting across the globe for both business and pleasure. But she also embodies so much more. Eliza is kind and grounded, with a genuine desire to connect with those who came before her and uplift those coming behind.

Background

Eliza, who holds an MBA with a marketing focus, is the Global Director of Field Marketing at an international tech company, overseeing event strategy and lead generation across the U.S. and Europe. She travels often—both domestically and internationally—to oversee conferences, trade shows, executive events, webinars, and other field campaigns that connect prospects and expand customers to her company’s technology. Her background includes a diverse experience in marketing and a well-rounded skill set in strategy, project management, analytics, creativity, brand awareness, and building memorable activations through events.

What She Loves About Her Job

Eliza thrives on the versatility and multidisciplinary nature that her career field offers. She has a deep love and passion for traveling—having already visited 38 countries (and counting)—and enjoys meeting new people at events around the globe. From booth designs and marketing swag to executive dinners and analytics dashboards, she gets to blend strategy, data, and creativity. One of her favorite aspects in her role is cross-functional collaboration. In addition to her marketing team, she works directly with a variety of departments: sales, tech, web, design, executives, operations, etc. “I get to really hone in and collaborate with just about every business function, for the most part, in this role,” she says.

Biggest Challenge

While Eliza enjoys her work, one of the biggest challenges is managing the many strong opinions that come with working closely with executives and C-suite stakeholders. "It can be tough when there are a lot of alpha voices in the room," she explains. She combats this by leaning on data and preparing solutions to back up her recommendations. Her mantra? Use your voice confidently, but remove emotion and lead with facts.

Advice to Other Black Women

Eliza encourages Black women to find their voice and not be afraid to use it. “Don't be afraid to use your voice. Your voice is valuable and valid. Just be conscious of removing emotions. You have to find that happy medium and that balance—between being aggressive and passionate, especially as a Black woman in corporate America.”

Future Goals

Though she sees herself potentially rising to a VP role, Eliza's ultimate dream is to run her own creative business. Whether it’s in fashion, interior design, music, or travel, she hopes to channel her talents into something that brings her joy and balance in the realm of her creative passions.

Fun Fact

Eliza is a true renaissance woman—multifaceted and exceptionally talented in a variety of areas. In addition to being a marketing leader, she’s a soulful gospel/R&B singer, fashion enthusiast (with over 250 pairs of shoes!), and an avid concert-goer. She also maintains her own blog and enjoys hiking in scenic locations when she travels. She’s visited five continents so far—with Australia and Antarctica next on her list.
